JUSTEIS:
JISC Usage Surveys: Trends in Electronic Information Services
JUSTEIS is part
of the JISC Monitoring and Evaluation of User Behaviour Framework.
The JUSTEIS elements of the framework have involved surveying students
and staff at further and higher education institutions throughout
the UK, surveying library web sites to assess the status of provision
of electronic information services, and interviewing library managers
about their purchasing decisions. Action research projects are being
conducted at several sites, to examine best practice for integrating
electronic information services into teaching and learning. JUSTEIS
methods include critical incident technique, critical success factors
and vignettes, to provide different perspectives on user behaviour.
To date (2003) around 1000 students have been interviewed (face-to-face)
(since 1999), and around 2000 questionnaires obtained from students.
Around 200 library websites have been analysed. The project is entering
a fifth cycle in Autumn 2003, with an emphasis on further in-depth
analysis and dissemination of those findings, by a variety of routes.
