At the Extraordinary General Meeting of the Library and Information Research Group held in London on Tuesday 3rd December 2002 a motion was passed to assimilate the Group into the Chartered Institute of Library and Information Professionals.

LIRG became a Special Interest Group within CILIP from April 2003.
